- TOURNAMENT WINNERS: The Rip Tide 12U softball team won the Strike Out Child Abuse benefit tournament held in Vicksburg on Oct. 13. Finishing second was Wildfire from Wesson. Rip Tide team members are Kiera Stamps, Ali Grace Luke, Raegan Thornell, Marley Bufkin, Macie Barnette, Sophie Masterson, Kyleigh Cooper, Kamryn Morson, Adalyn Reece Anderson, Maddy Pant and Graycee Rosamond. Coaches are Mike Foley, Gary Jones, Scott Luke and Mack Foley. Wildfire team members are Emmi Blue, Miranda Anderson, Maddie Bullock, Mackenzie Hux, Tera Vinning, Laney Kate Earls, Lilly Kate Channel, Kenzie Covington, Addison Marx and Anniston Poole. Spooky Sprint 5K
Registration is now open for the Spooky Sprint 5K. The 5-kilometer run and walk, 1-mile fun run and carnival is scheduled for Oct. 27 in downtown Vicksburg and is a fundraiser for Vicksburg Catholic Schools. The race will begin and end at BancorpSouth, 820 South Street. Runners are invited to compete in Halloween costumes. The registration fee for the 5K is $25, or $15 for the fun run for children 15 and under. To register online, visit spookysprint5k.webconnex.com/registration18.
Fall tennis program
The City of Vicksburg’s fall tennis program is now under way. Sessions are held each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Halls Ferry Park through the end of the year. The program is for children ages 7-18, and is free. For more information, call 601-618-4757.
Hinds Monster Mash
The Hinds Community College baseball and softball teams will host the seventh annual Monster Mash fundraiser at Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond Campus at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29.
The Monster Mash features a co-ed slow-pitch softball game between the baseball and softball teams. The student-athletes dress up in costumes and the event will include a “Trunk-or-Treat” event beginning at 6 p.m. The softball game starts at 6:30.
General admission is $5 with children 12 and under free of charge; with a Hinds ID, $2. All proceeds benefit Batson Children’s Hospital.
