St. Al’s Perniciaro fifth at state meet

Lilli Perniciaro finished fifth overall to lead the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes to a fourth-place team finish at the MAIS Class AAA girls state cross country meet Tuesday in Clinton.

Perniciaro clocked a time of 22 minutes, 1.95 seconds to lead a solid showing from St. Al’s five-person roster.

Julia Tuminello finished 21st, in 23:50.02, and Elizabeth Keene was 22nd in 23:55.94. Linley Miles placed 26th and Anna Ware Brown 37th.

Caroline Perry of Kirk Academy won the girls’ individual state championship with a time of 20:41.15. Kirk had three of the top eight finishers, but Columbia Academy had five in the top 14 and won the team title 55-63.
In the boys’ meet, Adam Eckstein and Tommy Martin posted top-16 individual finishes as St. Al placed sixth in the team standings.

Eckstein finished 14th, with a time of 19:13.39, and Martin was 16th in 19:18.87.

Brayden Roesch (25th place), Hunter McBride (36th), Layne Sparks (43rd), Ethan Naron (44th), Logan Johnson (47th) and Sterling Blanche (52nd) rounded out St. Al’s roster.

Cathedral’s Ryan Skates won the individual title with a time of 17:22.97, and the Green Wave had five runners among the top 13 to easily win the team title with a score of 40.

Silliman Institute was second, with 86 points.

In the junior varsity meets, St. Al’s Miller Theobald placed 35th in the girls’ meet and Walker Lambiotte was 35th in the boys’ meet.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Bridger Jung finished sixth overall in the junior varsity boys’ meet, with a time of 12:49.90 for the 3,300-meter race.
