Man who stole MHP car also wanted for Warren County theft

A man facing multiple charges after stealing a Mississippi Highway Patrol car and eluding police for three days also faces a theft charge in Warren County.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said a warrant was issued in September for Sean P. Sharp in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in the county. He said Sharp was developed as a suspect in the case and the warrant for his arrest was placed with the National Crime Information Center. He said his office has placed a hold on Sharp, who is being held in the Simpson County Jail.

According to an Associated Press story, Sharp is accused of stealing the Highway Patrol car in Simpson County on Nov. 21.

Sharp was pulled over near Mendenhall because he was wanted for vehicle theft in Warren County. Highway Patrol reports said Sharp twisted his handcuffed hands from behind his back to steal the police car. He’s also accused of then stealing two other cars.

Decatur Police Chief Joedy Pennington said authorities pursued Sharp in a car chase Friday before finally arresting him Sunday.

According to information from the Highway Patrol, Sharp faces six misdemeanor charges from the initial traffic stop by the trooper and is charged by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations for the following felonies: two auto theft charges, possession of a stolen pistol, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony fleeing.

In other cases:

• A Vicksburg woman faces drug charges after he arrest Wednesday by Vicksburg police after a traffic stop at Halls Ferry and Fisher Ferry roads for speeding.

Vicksburg police Lt. Johnnie Edwards said Heaven Brewer, 23, 3708 Halls Ferry Road, faces a charge of possession of methamphetamine after the drug was found in her car during a search after her arrest on the charge.

• A backpack containing $20, a Regions Bank card, Social Security card, cell phone and assorted prescription medication were reported taken about 2:57 p.m. Tuesday from a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked at City Front.

• Someone reportedly used a stolen credit card about 5:14 p.m. Tuesday to buy $5,000 in merchandise from Belk at the Vicksburg Mall, 3505 Pemberton Square Blvd.

• A white 2004 Toyota Carolla was reported taken about 7:23 a.m. Tuesday from the parking lot of Cappaert Manufactured Housing, 6200 U.S. 61 South. The victim told police he parked the car Monday and it was gone when he went to get it Tuesday.

• A blue 1984 Chevrolet Caprice was reported taken about 1:56 p.m. from the 1200 block of Bonelli Street. It was later recovered at Vicksburg recycling.
