Vikings edge Murrah in JPS Tournament

JACKSON — Warren ended a three-week losing streak in dramatic fashion on Wednesday.
Jalen Glass hit two key free throws with seven seconds remaining, and Chris Green made a pair of back-to-back baskets with less than two minutes left to spark the Vikings to a 54-51 win over Murrah in the Pepsi/JPS Holiday Tournament.
The Vikings (5-8) snapped a four-game losing streak that went back to Dec. 4, and won for only the second time in eight games overall. They advanced to the winners’ bracket of the JPS Tournament and will play Wingfield at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Murrah High School in Jackson.
Glass and Daniel Smither finished with nine points apiece against Murrah (7-5), and Green and P.J. Mims scored eight each. Jabari Bowman led the Vikings with 14 points.
Glass went 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, including the two with seven seconds left that gave Warren Central a 54-51 lead. Murrah was unable to hit a tying 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Mason Manning led Murrah with 17 points, and Jamaal Esco scored 10.
