Pace said the victim and several individuals had been duck hunting in an isolated area of Highway 465. The reports are that a firearm accidentally discharged after being loaded into a utility vehicle and struck the 29-year-old man from Louisiana in the upper left leg.

Warren County Sheriff deputies, Eagle Lake Fire Department personnel, as well as Vicksburg Fire Department personnel and agents of the MDWF&P met the hunting party approximately a mile south of the Eagle Lake cotton gin on Highway 465 to render first aid.

The victim was initially transported from the scene to Merit Health River Region where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound and subsequently transferred to the University Medical Center in Jackson. His condition was not immediately available.

As with any hunting related accident, the incident is being invested by the MDWF&P with assistance of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
