Vicksburg police are looking for three men who reportedly stole an undetermined number of purses from Dillard’s in the Vicksburg Mall Tuesday.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards said the thefts occurred about 5:41 p.m. when the men took the purses and ran out of the store with store employees in pursuit. He confirmed a shot was fired during the chase, but would not say who fired it or if anything was hit.

As the men were running to the car, he said, one of them dropped his load of purses in the parking lot while another man put his in a car the men were driving. They were unable to use the car, however, and fled on foot, leaving the merchandise in the car.

Edwards said police are not sure how many purses were taken, adding, “We have a search warrant to search the car, but we have not done that.” He added police believe the car may also contain merchandise taken from other businesses.

He said the case remains under investigation, and police are examining video surveillance tapes to try and identify the men.

• In another case, a traffic stop on Freetown Road Tuesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a man on a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant for probation violation.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Justin Cody Jones, 31, was being held in the Warren County Jail awaiting MDOC authorities.

Jones was on probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He said Jones gave a Paxton Road address, but MDOC records listed his home as Yazoo City.

Pace said deputies Ryan Adcock and Daniel Thomas were on patrol about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when they saw a disabled pickup being pulled by another truck that was stopped in the road and they stopped to see what was going on.

Jones’ warrant was discovered during a records check.
