Dr. Ethel M. Lassiter

The homegoing celebration for Dr. Ethel M. Lassiter will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel M. B. Church with the Rev. Dr. Franklin Lassiter as the officiant and the Rev. Dr. Ralph Lassiter as the Eulogist. Interment shall follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home. There will be a family hour held on Sunday, Jan. 20, in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dr. Lassiter went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 14, at 11:59 a.m. at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia. Her daughter Elyssa and son-in-law Haneef were by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Dr. Wright Lassiter Sr., and Mrs. Ethel Lee Franklin Lassiter, and her brother, the Rev. Dr. Lewis L. Lassiter.

She is survived by her daughter, Elyssa Lassiter Abdur-Razzaaq (Haneef) of Newport News, Virginia; sisters, Mrs. Mary Monteal Sills and Dr. Linda Lassiter Guidry (James); brothers, Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., (Demetria), Rev. Alfred Lassiter Sr., (Carolyn), Col. Albert Lassiter Sr., USAF, Retired (Josephine), Dr. Franklin Lassiter (Darnell) and Dr. Ralph Lassiter Sr., (Doris), and many godchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations for the Dr. Ethel M. Lassiter scholarship foundation — a scholarship to assist single parents who desire to go back to school to make a better life for them and their children.
