WC basketball splits with Northwest Rankin

The Warren Central Lady Vikes stopped a late-season slide with a big comeback on Tuesday.

Aniya Sanders scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Vikes rallied to beat Northwest Rankin 48-46.

Warren Central (10-14) trailed 40-34 entering the fourth quarter, then held Northwest Rankin (6-17) to only seven points the rest of the way.

Zykerri Segrest added 12 points for Warren Central, and Alaila Bracey scored nine. Tee Jones led Northwest Rankin with 14 points, most of it coming via four 3-pointers.

The Lady Vikes snapped a two-game losing streak and won for only the second time in their last six games.

In the boys’ game, Northwest Rankin flipped the script by holding Warren Central to eight points in the fourth quarter and 17 in the second half as it won 47-41.
Matthew Mackey scored 21 points for Northwest Rankin (10-15). He scored 10 of those and was 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Jabari Bowman led Warren Central with 13 points. Dariyous Moore added 12 and Daniel Smothers eight. WC (13-13) lost its fourth game in a row.

Warren Central will finish the regular season Friday at home against Terry. The varsity doubleheader begins at 6 p.m.
