VPD investigates home invasion

Vicksburg police are holding a man for questioning in the reported Wednesday afternoon home invasion in the 2300 block of Hunt Street, Lt. Johnnie Edwards said.

The incident occurred about 4:35 p.m. According to police reports, a woman told officers a man forced his way into her home, stole her purse containing an undetermined amount of money and ran off.

In another case, Quadarious Raekwon Jones, 21, 1319 China St. Apt. E, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with four counts of sale of cocaine. He turned himself into police about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The arrest was the result of an investigation into citizen complaints about drug activity in the area of Lake and Harrison streets.

He is being held without bail in the Issaquena County Corrections Center pending an initial appearance Friday in Municipal Court.

He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving with an expired license, no insurance, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, failure to stop, running a stop sign, improper turn at an intersection and failure to stop when an officer signals.

In other cases:

• Two  bad checks totaling $793.91 were reported passed about 11:11 a.m. Wednesday at Mid-South Lumber and Supply, 4925 U.S. 61 South. The case is under investigation.

• Assorted hand tools were reported missing about 5:04 p.m. from a home in the 200 block of Willow Drive.

Vicksburg police made the following misdemeanor arrests Wednesday:

• David Dewayne Harris, 40, 2830 Arcadia St., was arrested about 9:55 p.m. at Hall Road and Warrenton Road on a charge of making indecent harassing phone calls.

• Warrants were served on Freddie Eugene Walker, 53, 706 Maurice Ave.

• Lee Edward Yates, 49, 918 Harris St., was arrested about 4:52 a.m. on Harris Street on a charge of having an open container of alcohol. He was also served with warrants.

• Warrants were served on Jameesha Rashone Jones, 24, 1319 China St.

• Deatra Rochelle Shelby, 42, 1225 Prospect St., was arrested about 8:58 a.m. in the 3700 block of Drummond St., on a charge of disorderly conduct.

• Alia Kimberly Shelby, 19, 1225 Prospect St., was arrested about 8:58 a.m. in the 1200 block of Drummond Street on a charge of disorderly conduct.

• A warrant was served on Qutisha Chantel Barnes, 25, 30 Eastover Drive.

• DeAngelo Rashad Chiplin, 26,1312 Bowmar Ave., was arrested about 3:55 p.m. at the Vicksburg Police Department on a charge of contempt of court.

• Jaren Jarod McCalpin 18, 1101 Polk St., was arrested about 4:09 p.m. in the 3900 block of Halls Ferry Road on a charge of first-offense shoplifting.

• A warrant was served on Caleb Buddy Erves, 60, 1605 Court St., was arrested about 4:21 p.m. in the 3700 block of Washington St.

• Agnas Christian Martin, 24, 2110 Oak St., was arrested about 6:10 p.m. at the police department on four counts of indecent harassing phone call.

• William Kevin Davis, 50, 103 Rialto St., was arrested about 7:05 p.m. at the police department on a charge of violating the city’s leash law – allowing a dog to run loose.
