Donald Wayne “Duck” Gardner Sr.

Donald Wayne “Duck” Gardner Sr., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at Merit Health-River Region Medical Center. He was 78. 

Mr. Gardner was born in the Homochitto Community in Amite County to the late Percy Gardner and Callie Huff Gardner. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1959. He retired from Anderson Tully and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louanna Brown Gardner and his second wife, Jeannie Haley Gardner; three brothers, Harold Lloyd Gardner, Bobby Gardner and Charlie Gardner; and a sister, Aliene Beech.

He is survived by a son, Donald W. Gardner Jr., (Carissa) of Madison; four daughters,  Janet Cape of Vicksburg, Stephanie Jierski (Mike) of Clinton, Delores Ward of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Tonya Gardner of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Riles Funeral Home with Dr. E.L. Sharp officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, and from 9 a.m. on Friday until the hour of service. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery in the Homochitto community.  Pallbearers will be Cory Jierski, Blake Jierski, Mike Jierski, Murray Warnok, Austin Cape and Trey Isabel. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Stokes, Chris Abels and Kent Kirby.
