“It looks as though heavy rain over the next few days may lead to increased chances for some flash flooding in the area,” Elfer said Thursday. “There is also an increased confidence that some severe storms may also affect our area Friday and increase into Saturday. Some of these storms could produce tornadoes, heavy rain and damaging winds.”

Thursday, the National Weather Service predicted up to three inches of rain for Vicksburg through Saturday evening with flash flooding of low lying areas likely. There is also a marginal risk for isolated severe storms into Friday night with potential damaging wind gusts and hail up to a quarter size. There’s a slight risk Saturday of damaging winds between 60-70 mph, quarter to golf ball size hail and tornadoes.
