Funeral services for Lizzie Vernel Erves will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11 a.m., at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 5456 Morrison Road, Utica. Interment will follow in Mount Pisgah (Hickory Tree) M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 5-7 p.m., at CJ Williams Mortuary Services and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Erves died on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 68.

She was a member of Mount Zion CME, which later became New Faith Independent Church. After moving to Georgia, she united with Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.

She was a 1968 graduate of Utica Junior College. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1972 from Jackson State University and later received a Masters of Education degree from Georgia State University.

She was a retired educator of 27 years.

Mrs. Erves is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alonzo Erves; daughter, Joselyn Trinnette Erves; one sister, five brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
