Food, planes and vehicles that run on four and two wheels will be the featured attractions March 23 at the Southern Heritage Air Foundation’s “Spring is in the Air” program at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport in Mound, Louisiana.
“We usually do something in the spring,” Foundation president Patty Mekus said. “We did ‘Hops and Props’ with the Chennault Museum in Monroe last year. When it’s an off air show year, we usually do something to raise a little bit of money in the spring and something in the fall.”
The Foundation’s program will feature static displays of planes, cars and motorcycles. The museum’s latest acquisition, a Russian Yakovlev YAK-9 World War II-era fighter that was donated to the museum, is expected to be one of the aircraft on display.
Visitors will also be able to tour the museum, take a ride in one of the museum’s planes, eat crawfish, hamburgers, or hot dogs, and children will be able to play in the Kid Zone. Admission is free to tour the museum, see the displays and play in the Kid Zone.
The cost of the “all-you-can-eat” crawfish is $30 in advance and $40 at the door; the cost to eat hamburgers or hot dogs is $5 in advance and $10 at the door. There is also a charge to fly in one of the airplanes.
The fees to take a flight in one of planes are $1,995 for the museum’s P-51 Mustang, $350 for the T-6 Texan, $165 for the Aviat Husky, and $100 for the L-5 Stinson.
The event also includes a bake sale, and books and aviation and military jewelry will be on sale. All money will benefit the museum.
