Red Cross lifeguard class
An American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification class will be held April 1-12 at the Purks YMCA, 267 YMCA Place.
The 30-hour class will meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. each weeknight for two weeks. Those interested must be at least 15 years old or turning that age no later than April 12, 2019, in order to participate and receive certification.
Lifeguard candidates must complete a prerequisite strength and endurance test which includes a 300-yard continuous swim using various swimming strokes as well as several timed speed, strength, and endurance tests.
Cost for the course is $125 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. The class will be taught by veteran ARC instructors Susan and Bob Athow and Sylvia Gurtowski.

AJGT golf tournament
The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the Joseph M. Bartholomew Junior Classic March 30-31 at the Joseph M. Bartholomew Golf Course in New Orleans. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is for golfers ages 11-18. The entry fee is $195 and includes green fees, tee gifts, and trophies in four age divisions.

Baseball, softball umps
The Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department is seeking baseball and softball umpires for its upcoming spring adult and youth seasons. Anyone interested in umpiring games can pick up application forms at the Parks and Rec offices at 100 Army Navy Drive.

EMCC golf tournament
The East Mississippi Community College football program will host the Fourth Annual EMCC Football Golf Classic on Friday, May 3, at Lion Hills Golf Club in Columbus.
The tournament benefits the EMCC football program through the EMCC Development Foundation. The cost of the four-person scramble is $250 per team, which includes green and cart fees, driving range access, sandwiches, T-shirt and a team photograph. A shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Prizes during EMCC’s football fundraiser will be awarded for hole-in-one shots as well as for the longest drive and closest to the pin.
