Toddler wounded in the leg by gunshot; under investigation

A 3-year-old child was wounded Thursday night by a gunshot at a mobile home in a mobile home park in the 1200 block of Mount Alban Road, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

He said deputies received a 911 call about 8:45 p.m. Thursday that a child had been shot in the leg at the mobile home park. The child was taken by the parents to Merit Health River Region with a single gunshot wound to the thigh. The child was later transferred by AirCare helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center.

According to sheriff’s office reports, the child, two older children and the parents were home when the incident occurred.

Pace said investigator Sam Winchester, the lead investigator in the case, recovered a bullet believed to be the one that wounded the child. The sheriff declined to give further information citing the investigation.

In other cases:

• A traffic stop by Vicksburg police Thursday night resulted in the arrest of a Raymond man on drug charges. Conner Cooper, 19, 105 Oak Trace, Raymond, is accused of possession of methamphetamine.

• Automotive batteries were reported taken about 6:54 a.m. from the city of Vicksburg’s welding shop, 3503 Patricia St.

• A Stihl pole saw valued at $400, two Stihl chainsaws valued at $700, a blower valued at $300, two Honda grass trimmers valued at $400 each, and two hedge trimmers valued at $300 each, were reported taken from the city of Vicksburg landscape department, 3601 Patricia St.

Vicksburg police made the following misdemeanor arrests:

• Shantrice Rochelle Jordan, 29, 516 Heartwood Circle, was arrested about 7:37 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of two counts of contempt of court.

• A warrant was served Wednesday on Tommy Curtis, 32, 1614 South St.

• Fallon Victoria Valdez, 30, 1203 Harris St., was arrested about 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Vicksburg Police Department on a charge of contempt of court.

• Kacy Nicole Smith, 19, 1709 Martha St., was arrested about 12:52 p.m. Wednesday in the 2700 block of Alcorn Drive on a charge of simple assault.

• Bernice Flores, 21, 980 Mannie Road, Rolling Fork, was arrested about 3:33 p.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Iowa Boulevard on a charge of first-offense shoplifting.

• Warrants were served Wednesday on Joel Alexander Johnson, 23, 1114 Fayette St.

• Treshae Damon Matthews, 23, 738 Central Ave., was arrested about 4:31 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on a charge of contempt of court.

• Ejeanae Yumesa Lewis, 18, 1203 Drummond St., was arrested about 4:54 p.m. in the 1100 block of Grove St. on a charge of disorderly conduct.
