Once again, Warren Central’s golf team clustered its scores in a narrow but effective range. And, once again, it led to some pretty good results.

Josh Hallberg earned medalist honors with a 79, and his four teammates all shot in the 80s to lead the Vikings to the team title at the Warren Central Invitational at Vicksburg Country Club on Friday.

The Vikings shot a team score of 327 for their best round of the season, and won for the second time this year.

Reed Buys shot an 81 to finish second in the individual standings. Hartley Sullivan shot 82, Taylor Lampkin 85 and Zack Montpelier 89.

“We shot our best score of the year. All of the top five were between 79 and 89, so we played really well on a difficult course,” Warren Central coach Matt Williams said. “We feel really good about where we’re at with the district tournament next week.”

Warren Central has two tournaments next week, Tuesday at Live Oaks Golf Club in Clinton and then the Region 4-6A tournament Thursday at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.

The MHSAA Class 6A boys state tournament is May 5-7 at Ole Miss Golf Club in Oxford.
