VHS softball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity softball team will be held May 9 and 10 at the Softball Swamp field on Army Navy Drive. The tryouts are open to all female VHS students currently in grades 6-11, and will begin at 5:30 p.m. each day.

All players must have a current physical, their own glove, and should bring softball or sweat pants, and cleats or turf shoes. For more information, contact coach Brian Ellis at 601-636-2914 or via email at bellis@vwsd.org.

The fifth annual camp will be held at Sports Force Parks on the Mississippi on July 20, from 7:30 a.m. to noon, and is open to children in grades 1-12. The camp is free, but space is limited to 200 children in grades 1-6 and 300 in grades 7-12, so registration is required.

Learn to Swim classes
Registration for the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Lessons at Vicksburg City Pool will be held May 15-17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, and May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the pool entrance. Classes will be taught in two-week sessions. The cost for each session is $15. Class and space availability is limited as not all levels and programs will be available during all sessions. Classes are open to both children and adults.

Sessions will run from June 3-14, June 24-July 5, and July 15-26. Lessons during each session will run from 9 a.m. to 9:45 for childcare centers only; from 10 to 11:45 a.m. for the public; and from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for 3- and 4-year-old preschoolers and beginning adults ages 13 and up. Parent participation is mandatory for the preschool lessons.

Children participating in the preschoolers class must have turned 3 years old by the first day of class; and students registered for the Learn to Swim program must be 5 years old by class start date.

MSHOF golf tournament
First Commercial Bank and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame will host the Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament at Annandale Golf Club on May 6. Each team is paired with a Mississippi sports legend, college administrator, coach or former professional athlete.

The tournament begins with a breakfast buffet and registration at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start at 11. Food, beverages and door prizes are available throughout the day.

The entry fee is $260 per player, which includes tickets to the Hall of Fame’s Meet the Inductees and drawdown events Aug. 2-3 in Jackson. Team and corporate sponsorships are also available. All proceeds benefit the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
