Hundreds lose power in two outages

Two power outages — one Thursday evening and the other Friday morning — might have happened hours apart, but they were caused by very similar reasons.

Thursday evening, nearly 700 Entergy customers lost power before 9 p.m. when a tree fell near Beechwood Elementary. A limb from that falling tree clipped a power line, knocking out power to customers down Highway 27, Stenson Road, Stenson Road and Mt. Alban Road.

Crews were able to restore power shortly after 10 p.m.

Friday morning, around 7 a.m., with clear skies in the area, more than 1,200 customers lost power when the top of a willow tree fell on a line near Rifle Range Road and U.S. Highway 61 South. Customers along Halls Ferry Road, Cain Ridge and other areas in South Vicksburg were affected.

This outage was cleared up by 9 a.m.
