Mad Scientist 5K
The Mad Scientist 5K run and race walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center in Vicksburg.
The race begins at 8 a.m., and race day registration at 7 a.m. A one-mile fun run will follow the race, which is a Mississippi Track Club Grand Prix event.
The entry fee is $20 for the 5K, or $10 for the fun run. Registration forms are available at ERDC headquarters on Halls Ferry Road, and online registration is at raceroster.com/events/2019/23736/mad-scientist-run.

Bowling leagues forming
Organizational meetings have been scheduled for bowling leagues for the 2019-20 season. All meetings and games are at Fun Lanes in the Vicksburg Mall.
The meeting for the Tuesday Night Open league is Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. This league is open to all adult bowlers and competition begins on Aug. 20.
The meeting for the Cannonball League is Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. This league is open to adult bowlers and begins on Aug. 22.
The meeting for the Seniors League is Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. This league is open to all bowlers age 50 and over.
The meeting for the Monday Night Rollers league is Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. This league is for adult bowlers and competition begins on Sept. 9.
All bowlers must purchase a 2019-2020 USBC sanction card no later than the first night of competition. The card costs $21.

Fall baseball registration
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s youth fall baseball league will begin on Aug. 5 and continue until Sept. 13. The league is for children ages 5-12, and will have four age divisions. The registration fee is $25.
Coaches are also needed for all teams.

Co-ed softball registration
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s co-ed adult and church softball leagues will begin Aug. 12 and continue through Sept. 20. The registration fee is $175 per team, plus an additional cost of $10 per player from Warren County (outside the city limits) and $20 for residents of Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties.

Cannons baseball team
The Vicksburg Cannons Baseball Club is looking for players for its 10U tournament baseball team. Tryouts will be held Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Culkin Baseball Complex.

YMCA football registration
Registration is now open for the Vicksburg YMCA’s 2019 youth football season, and will continue until Aug. 31.
There are four leagues for children ages 5-11. The 5-6, 7- and 8-9-year-olds’ leagues are all flag football leagues, and the 10-11-year-olds’ division is tackle football.
The cost is $60 for YMCA members and $80 for non-members.
The season starts Sept. 16. Flag football games will be played Monday and Tuesday evenings, and the tackle league on Thursdays, at the Purks YMCA fields off of East Clay Street.

SHAF charity shoot
The Southern Heritage Air Foundation will host its 2019 Sporting Clay Charity Shoot on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the Turcotte Shooting Range, 506 Mississippi 43 in Canton. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
A golf cart or UTV is required, and rentals will be available.
The cost for the shoot is $100 per shooter for 100 targets. Stand sponsorships are also available for $325. Proceeds from the event benefit the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and its programs.
