James “Greyhound” Harrington Jr.

Mr. James “Greyhound” Harrington Jr. departed this life on Aug. 20, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was a 1960 graduate of Harper High School in Mendenhall, where he was a member of the football team.  Upon graduation from high school he moved to Chicago, Ill., where he was a Greyhound bus driver until his retirement in 2000. In 2005, he and his wife, Deloris Harrington, relocated to Vicksburg,

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Harrington Sr. and Eula Thomas Harrington; sister, Loretta Harrington.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Deloris Smith Harrington of Vicksburg;  son, James Harrington III of Kuwait; daughter, Dorothy Yvonne Thomas of Chicago, Ill.; stepdaughters, Bonita Prentiss Ray and Hazel Prentiss both of Chicago, Ill.;  three brothers, Willie James Harrington and Earl Harrington both of Mendenhall, and Napoleon Harrington of  Plattsburg, N.Y.; sisters Sammie Landing of Mendenhall, Mary Helen Terry of Magee, Flora Banks of Bellwood, Ill., Barbara Powell of Dallas, Texas, and Clothiel Vallient of Magee; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be 1p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at Lakeview Funeral Home from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 6 to 7pm., and Saturday at the church from noon until the hour of the service.
