The Event Place, 1415 Washington St., which was closed Aug. 25 by Mayor George Flaggs Jr. after a disturbance in which shots were reported fired outside the building, has been reopened.

Flaggs said Friday he allowed the business to reopen after a telephone conference involving him, building owner Daryl Hollingsworth, Police Chief Milton Moore and Dejane Hill, who leases the building from Hollingsworth.

“We have a memorandum of understanding,” he said. “The agreement is with the subcontractor (Hill), not the building owner.”

Under the terms of the agreement, all events at the venue will be by invitation only and no “open door” events. Security guards will be provided inside and out for all events, and security cameras inside the building will be checked before any event and be in proper working order.

Also, in the event of a disturbance Vicksburg Police will have access to the property and the video system within 24 hours.

The events leading to the closing of the Event Place occurred about 10 p.m. Aug. 24 during a party involving juveniles, Moore said. An argument began in the building and carried out into the street, where the shots were fired.

Moore said no one was injured and no arrests were made pending an investigation, which is ongoing.
