Bullet strikes home Monday evening near Cherry Street, East Avenue

No one was injured Monday after shots were reported fired in the area of Cherry Street and East Avenue.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards, with the Vicksburg Police Department, said the incident occurred about 7:47 p.m. Monday. Police believe someone may have been shooting at another person in the area and missed, adding officers recovered nine shell casings in the area and a stray bullet struck a house.

No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation.

In other cases:

  • Two counterfeit bills were reported passed Sunday at the Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St.

According to police reports, a $100 bill was passed about 10:26 a.m., while a $10 bill was passed about 11:43 p.m.

  • Shots were reported fired about 4:57 a.m. in the 2700 block of Cherry St.
  • A debit card, EBT card, clothing and food from a deep freeze were reported taken from a home in the 100 block of Alcorn Drive.
