St. Al’s Garmon finishes second at cross country meet
St. Aloysius’ Rachel Garmon plowed through a hot, dusty course to finish second at the PCS Invitational cross country meet Monday in Magee.
Garmon’s time of 21 minutes, 18 seconds for the 5K run is the best this season among MAIS Class 4A runners. She finished second Monday to Jackson Prep’s Julia Stradinger, a Class 6A runner who crossed the line in 21:03.
Eighth-grader Nancy Clement was St. Al’s second-best finisher, coming in 20th place with a time of 24:50. Julia Tuminello was 27th among 157 runners with a time of 26 minutes even. Linley Miles finished 47th in 27:55.
St. Al finished sixth out of 12 teams in the girls’ team standings, with a total of 147 points. Simpson Academy was first, with 42 points — runners are scored by their finish in cross country, and the lowest team score wins — and Jackson Prep was second with 56.
In the boys’ meet, St. Al finished 10th out of 16 teams with a score of 279. Presbyterian Christian was first, with 32 points, and Jackson Prep was second with 48.
