One suspect tied to Saturday murder in custody

Vicksburg Police have one person in custody and other arrests are expected in connection to the Saturday morning murder of Dematric Lamar Clark, 36.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards, with the Vicksburg Police Department, said police officers assisted by deputies with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office took Demarcus Qualls into custody Monday afternoon in the 100 block of Kidd Lane in the Ballground community.

Earlier Monday, police issued warrants for Qualls and Eric Clayton, charging them with murder in Clark’s death. He said Clayton remains at large, and more arrests are expected.

According to police reports, officers responding about 12:51 a.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Fayette Street with one person shot arrived to find Clark lying in the street in the 1200 block of Fayette with a gunshot wound to the head.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey pronounced him dead at the scene. Clark’s death is the second reported homicide of 2019.

Edwards said no motive has been determined for the death and the case remains under investigation.
