Latorre appointed to Mississippi State Medical Association Board of Trustees

RIDGELAND—Vicksburg family physician Dr. Carlos Latorre was appointed as a 2019-2020 Mississippi State Medical Association Board of Trustee Member.

“Dr. Carlos Latorre is so deserving of this appointment,” fellow board member and part of Vicksburg’s medical community Dr. Geri Weiland said. “He will make great choices and recommendations on behalf of physicians in our state.”

Weiland is also the board’s Speaker of the House.

Latorre was recently awarded the Dr. James C. Waites Leadership Award.

A member of MSMA since 2011, Latorre is president of the West Mississippi Medical Society and vice-president of the Mississippi Academy of Family Medicine. He also has served as a delegate to MSMA’s Annual Session since 2011, and as chairman of Reference committees on five different occasions. He is a graduate of the first MSMA’s Physician Leadership Academy.

Latorre is a board-certified family physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He earned his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 2008 and completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2011 while serving as chief resident for the Department of Family Medicine.

He has a B.S. and M.S. in geology from the University of Southern Mississippi and is a registered professional geologist in the state of Mississippi.
