The Vicksburg Police Department wants you

The Vicksburg Police Department wants you.

They don’t want you for something you and your buddies might have done during your senior year of high school, instead, they want you to help protect and serve this community.

In recent years, the department has found it increasingly difficult to not only recruit individuals to fill a number of open positions for officers, but also to find individuals who can pass some of the basic physical and educational requirements for selection.

They hope that will change as they work to better publicize the requirements and the need for more applicants, more people looking to serve.

Department officials are open and honest that becoming a police officer is not an avenue to great individual wealth, but instead a chance to have a positive impact on the community and those who look to raise their families in a safe, secure city.

Being a police officer in Vicksburg — or with any law enforcement agency — is not just a job, it needs to be a calling. For those who succeed in the role of officer, deputy, trooper, etc., they do so because they understand they are doing it for something far bigger than themselves. They are doing it to protect their friends, their loved ones, their community.

It is our hope there are those in our community who answer the current call to apply and we hope the department has far more apply and pass the basic requirements than the number of current openings at the department.

The Vicksburg Police Department wants you, today.
