WC golf tournament
The 2020 Viking Golf 4-Man Scramble, a golf tournament to benefit the Warren Central golf team, is scheduled for March 21 at Vicksburg Country Club. The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $100 per person, or $400 per four-person team, and includes lunch and one mulligan per player. There are prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin. Overall prizes for first through third places will be awarded as well.

VHS basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity boys basketball team will be held March 4-6, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. each day. The tryouts are open to VHS students in grades 10-12. All participants must have a current physical, approved sneakers and workout gear. For information, contact coaches Kelvin Carter or Julius Williams.

Justin Henry Baseball Camp
The 2020 Justin Henry Baseball Camp is scheduled for March 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Warren Central High School baseball field. The camp is for children in grades K-6, and drills will focus on hitting, pitching, fielding and baserunning.

In addition to the drills, the camp will have a high school home run derby and speed showcase. A mini-camp for children ages 4-5 will be offered at 1 p.m.

Run Thru History
Registration is now open for the 41st annual Run Thru History. The 10K run and 5K race walk through the Vicksburg National Military Park is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 8 a.m.

The entry fee is $30 for the run and walk. The children’s 1-mile fun run is free. The first 800 people registered will receive a race shirt. For information or to register, visit runthruhistory.org or call the Vicksburg YMCA at 601-638-1071.

Lifeguard class
The Vicksburg YMCA will hold an American Red Cross lifeguard certification class March 30 through April 10 at the Purks YMCA pool.

Those taking the class must be 15 years of age or older before April 10, 2020, and pass an endurance test on the first day. The cost of the class is $125 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. Completion of the class and Red Cross certification is required to hold a lifeguard job at City Pool.

Game officials needed
The City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department is looking for umpires and referees for its youth baseball, softball and basketball leagues. Those interested can pick up applications at the Parks and Rec office at 100 Army Navy Drive. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-831-8050.

Hinds football tryouts
Hinds Community College has rescheduled its football tryouts for Wednesday, March 18, at 1 p.m. at Joe Renfroe Stadium on the Raymond campus. Registration will begin at noon at Mayo Athletic Field House. All players must have a current physical, shorts, a T-shirt and cleats. The cost of the tryout is $20.
