Adult softball league
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult softball league will begin March 23 and continue until May 1.
Registration packets are available at the Parks and Recreation Department office at 100 Army Navy Drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The registration fee is $175 per team, with an extra $10 fee for non-city residents and a $20 fee for residents of Sharkey, Issaquena, Claiborne and Hinds counties.
A mandatory coaches meeting will be held on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. All teams must have a representative at the meeting.

VHS volleyball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s volleyball team are scheduled for March 23 and 24, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. each day in the VHS gym. The tryouts are for girls in grades 9-12.
Players must have a current physical, their latest report card, a T-shirt, shoes, knee pads, socks and tennis shoes. For more information, contact coach Deborah Brown at dbrown@vwsd.org or 601-636-2914.
WC golf tournament
The 2020 Viking Golf 4-Man Scramble, a golf tournament to benefit the Warren Central golf team, is scheduled for March 21 at Vicksburg Country Club. The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The entry fee is $100 per person, or $400 per four-person team, and includes lunch and one mulligan per player. There are prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin. Overall prizes for first through third places will be awarded as well.

Lifeguard class
The Vicksburg YMCA will hold an American Red Cross lifeguard certification class March 30 through April 10 at the Purks YMCA pool.
Those taking the class must be 15 years of age or older before April 10, 2020, and pass an endurance test on the first day. The endurance test consists of a 300-yard swim; two minutes of treading water without using hands; and a 20-yard swim, surface dive, and retrieval of a 10-pound brick, followed by another 20-yard swim without the use of hands.
The cost of the class is $125 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. Completion of the class and Red Cross certification is required to hold a lifeguard job at City Pool.

Game officials needed
The City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department is looking for umpires and referees for its youth baseball, softball and basketball leagues.
