Estimated active COVID-19 case total reaches highest level since pandemic began
The estimated number of active COVID-19 cases in Warren County is now at 70, the highest number of active cases calculated during the outbreak, the Mississippi Department of Health reported on Friday.
Technical issues kept the state from providing information Thursday about new COVID-19 cases and virus-related deaths.
Those problems were fixed Friday. Health officials reported a two-day total of 608 new cases across the state and 13 additional virus-related deaths.
In Warren County, the number of cases grew by 13, bringing the total number of cases reported to 245.
Overall, the state has now confirmed 19,091 cases in Mississippi during the pandemic and 881 deaths.
In Claiborne County, state health officials reported the number of confirmed cases during the pandemic has reached 138, with seven virus-related deaths.
Sharkey County reported its first new cases in more than three weeks. Overall, the county has reported eight total cases, but only the one reported Friday is considered an active case.
Yazoo County is now reporting 337 cases overall, while Issaquena County remains the only county in the state to not yet report a positive case.
