Game Plan

Malcolm Butler football camp
Registration is now open for the Sixth Annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp, a free instructional camp conducted by the Tennessee Titans cornerback and former Vicksburg High star.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year will be a “virtual camp,” where players will go online using Google Hangout to interact and receive instruction from Butler, but do the various drills at their own homes.

The camp is scheduled for Saturday, July 18. Players in grades 1-6 will have their camp session from noon to 1 p.m. Players in grades 7-12 will go from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The camp is free, but registration is limited to about 150 people per session.

To register or for more information, visit malcolmbutlerfootballcamp.org; or call Cynthia Bell at 601-529-7470 or Carolyn Bingham at 601-738-8102.

Warren County golf championship
Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina will host the Warren County Championship July 25 and 26. The County Championship is open to all golfers 16 years and older, and golfers do not need to be a Warren County resident to enter. The entry fee for the 36-hole, two-day tournament is $110. Golfers should call the Clear Creek clubhouse at 601-638-9395 to register or for more information.

MAIS fishing tournament
The Mid-South Association of Independent Schools will conduct its July Slam Fishing Tournament through July 31.

The tournament is open to all students at MAIS member schools, and there is a $10 entry fee. It is a virtual tournament, where anglers fish at their own pace and locations throughout July and submit results through the Fishing Chaos app. The app is available at the Apple App Store. Google Play Store, or at app.fishingchaos.com.

Fishermen may submit catches of bass, freshwater catfish or bream. Prizes will be awarded for the lunker fish of each species and aggregate length of the five largest fish per angler. The fish must be fresh and visibly alive when photographed for submission, and participants are encouraged to practice catch, photo and release.

Complete rules are available on the app’s web site, or at MSAIS.org.

YMCA football registration
Registration for the Vicksburg YMCA’s 2020 flag football season is now under way. The league is open to players in kindergarten through sixth grade, and will be broken up into several age divisions.

The registration fee is $50 for YMCA members and $70 for non-members. Parents can register their children at the Purks YMCA, online at vicksburgymca.com, or by calling 601-638-1071. Registration will be open until Sept. 1.
