Warren Central worked overtime to beat Pearl last week, and it paid off with a bump in the Mississippi Associated Press Class 6A poll.

The Vikings, who beat Pearl 28-21 in overtime on Friday, moved up one spot to No. 4 in the Class 6A poll released Tuesday. Undefeated Warren Central (3-0) will host Germantown this Friday night at 7.

Starkville remained No. 1 in the Class 6A poll, after receiving eight of nine first-place votes from a statewide media panel. South Panola moved up one spot to No. 2. Oak Grove — which received the other first-place vote — was No. 3, and Oxford entered the poll at No. 5.

Madison Central, which lost 6-0 to Brandon, fell out of the top five but remained No. 10 in the Overall Top 10 that ranks teams regardless of classification.

Starkville was also No. 1 overall. South Panola was No. 2, followed by West Point, Oak Grove, West Jones, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, Picayune, Neshoba Central, Oxford and Madison Central.

Warren Central had the most votes of teams in the overall poll that did not make it into the top 10.

Other top-ranked teams were Nanih Waiya in Class 1A, Taylorsville in Class 2A, Columbia in Class 3A, Corinth in 4A, and West Point in 5A. Madison-Ridgeland Academy is No. 1 in the MAIS poll.

All of the top-ranked teams except Columbia were also ranked No. 1 last week. Columbia moved up one spot in Class 3A after Jefferson Davis County lost 30-25 to Hattiesburg. Jefferson Davis County slipped one spot to No. 2.
