Mrs. Walter Luster of Edwards was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • J.A. Gerache was elected faithful navigator of the Fourth Degree Assembly of Knights of Columbus.

Vicksburg service stations closed on Sunday in response to a request by President Nixon. • Cassino’s Florist was the first business in the new historic area to remodel.

40 Years Ago: 1983
Mrs. Mildred Kemper Jefferson died. • Dan Lee, superintendent of Vicksburg National Military Park since 1970, announced his retirement.

30 Years Ago: 1993
Pat Simrall was appointed Warren County Tax Collector on a 2-2 vote. • More than 600,000 was awarded to Vicksburg for a second buyout of homes in Hamilton Heights.

20 Years Ago: 2003
All Saints Episcopal School remained open indefinitely. • Bessie Mae Thomas died.
