Flashes rout Benton Academy for third win in a row

St. Aloysius’ boys’ basketball team used a balanced effort to pull its record above even.

Carter Henderson had 17 points and nine rebounds to lead three players in double figures, and the Flashes won their third game in a row by beating Benton Academy 71-48 on Monday.

Korey Sims had 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists for St. Al (4-3), which has ripped off its winning streak after losing three of its first four games. It’ll host Madison-St. Joseph Tuesday at 6 p.m., then on Friday goes to Jackson to face Hillcrest Christian.

Carson Henderson added 11 points, while Carson Gleese and Anthony McCloud scored eight each against Benton. Gleese nearly had a triple-double,with 11 points and nine assists as well.

In the junior high boys’ game, St. Al beat Benton 33-10 behind 16 points and six rebounds from Dru Gleese. Walt Andrews scored eight points and Grant Gattle had nine rebounds.

St. Al’s varsity girls lost 62-30 to Benton. Taryn Lusby scored 11 points and Farrell Roberson had seven. The JV girls won 18-15.
