Jean ‘Beanie’ Marie Smith

Jean “Beanie” Marie Smith passed away on Nov. 27, 2023, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 75.

Beanie was born in Delhi, LA, on Jan. 29, 1948, the daughter of the late Luther Preston Woodard and Orlena Mae Woodard.

She graduated from Delhi High School in 1966 and then nursing school. She worked as a Charge Nurse at Vicksburg Convalescent Home.

She retired from nursing to become a full-time grandmother for her grandkids. She enjoyed watching them play sports and never missed a game.

She loved gardening and was a member of the garden club and was an avid hunter and outdoorsperson.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school in the children’s department for many years and she sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Jerry L. Smith; sons Jeremy Lane Smith (Cassie), Jason Matthew Smith (Dana Kay) and Jonathan Heath Smith (Jamie); grandchildren Michael Croisdale (Katie), Colby Smith, Chloe Smith Flaharty (Zane), Rheagan Smith, Mary Beth Borrello, Carlyle Smith (Ricky), Kendall Smith, Evan Smith and Jolie Smith; and great-grandchildren Brees Borrello, Charlie Borrello, Paisley Borrello, Landri Kaye Smith and Everleigh Flaharty.

Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Immanuel Baptist Church. The service will start at 11 a.m. with Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating.

Burial will follow in Start Cemetery in Start, LA.

Pallbearers will be Gage Wilkinson, Ricky Carraway, Danny Daniels, James Joyner, Don McAuley, Michael Croisdale, Collin Magoun and Marshall Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Martin, Franklin Hicks and Cecil Dillon.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sam Pierce, Dr. Paul Pierce IV, Dr. Middleton, Dr. Sohal and the ICU nursing staff at Merit Health River Region.
