Vicksburg and Warren County flags were at half staff this weekend

Flags were flown at half-staff around the Vicksburg-Warren County area this weekend in memory and honor of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Mrs. Carter died on Nov. 19. at the age of 96.

Carter was known for her work for women’s rights; her continued advocacy for mental health issues and her humanitarian work alongside her husband, former President Jimmy Carter.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” said former President Carter.

A week-long memorial will take place in Georgia, beginning with a motorcade taking her from Plains to The Carter Center in Atlanta where she will lie in repose.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday with her funeral services taking place on Wednesday. Carter will be interred in her hometown of Plains.

President and Doctor Joe Biden along with Vice President Kamala Harris and First Gentleman Doug Emhoff will attend the memorial services on Tuesday.

“First Lady Rosalynn Carter walked her own path, inspiring a nation and the world along the way, ” the Bidens said in a statement the day she died.
