The Vicksburg Missy Gators finally got some shots to fall and the ball to bounce their way.

Vicksburg overcame a 12-point deficit in the last two minutes to force overtime, and Kierra James scored the only point in the extra period on a free throw in the final seconds as the Missy Gators beat Port Gibson 56-55 on Saturday.

It was the first win of the season for Vicksburg (1-8) after a string of close calls. Five of their eight losses have been by six points or less.

This one seemed headed against them as well until they scored the final 12 points of regulation to tie the score at 55. Cynia Johnson had the game-tying basket in the final seconds.

In overtime, neither team scored until James sank her free throw with 8.6 seconds left. Port Gibson (4-2) had another chance to win it, but committed a turnover on the inbounds pass.

James finished with a team-high 19 points for Vicksburg, Johnson scored 11, Jordan Grace had nine and Terri Boyd seven.

Vicksburg will host Yazoo City Tuesday at 6 p.m., and is at McComb on Friday, Dec. 8.
