Aven Burgess

Aven Burgess, age 81, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away on Dec. 01, 2023. He was born in Mayersville, Mississippi, on May 28, 1942.

Survivors include his children, James Burgess, Joshua James, Erin James and Adam Roorda; a brother, Edward Burgess; sisters, Shirley Bennett and Bonnie Boland; grandchildren, Gavin Tuberville, Carter James and Mason James; and several nieces and nephews.

Aven attended Mississippi State University and graduated from Mississippi College in 1984. He formerly served the Department of Defense as an Auditor and as IRS Auditor.

He retired from Ameristar Casino having worked as Director of Compliance. Early in life, he managed golf and bowling companies and became a pro in both professions.

Those who knew Aven knew he had a larger-than-life infectious laugh with a profound love for birds, flowering plants and music.

He had an immense joy for family get-togethers, karaoke, painting, writing poetry and reading books. Aven’s family and friends will sadly miss him.
