Warren Central soccer sweeps Columbus

After a few low-scoring outings, Warren Central’s girls’ soccer team cut loose Friday night.

Gloria Hall scored two goals, five other players had one each, and the Lady Vikes hammered Columbus 7-0 for their second MHSAA Region 2-6A victory in a row.

Warren Central scored a total of two goals in its last three games, and more than doubled that against Columbus (2-7-1, 0-2 Region 2-6A).

Brooke Steed had a goal and two assists for the Lady Vikes, and Jordan Polk had one goal and one assist. Laney Bull, Kennedy Smith and Addison Keller scored one goal each.

Warren Central (7-3, 2-0) will finish the first half of its region schedule Tuesday, with a road trip to Ridgeland. Its only other game before New Year’s is Dec. 21 at Germantown.

Warren Central 4, Columbus 0
Jonah Artman scored two goals, and Tyler Godshaw had a goal and two assists to lead Warren Central to a dominant win over Columbus in Friday’s boys’ game.

Godshaw scored off an assist from Laney Lewis in the fifth minute, and Artman scored on a free kick in the 17th to put Warren Central in control early.

Godshaw assisted Artman and Luke Bond for goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put it away. Warren Central outshot Columbus 22-4, with 13 of its shots making it on goal.

Keeper Colby Solomon made two saves for the easy shutout.

Warren Central (8-3, 2-0 Region 2-6A) won for the sixth time in eight games.
