Melissa Herrle gave Warren Central’s volleyball program a milestone achievement.

Herrle, a junior, was one of 12 players selected to the Mississippi Association of Coaches MHSAA Class 6A All-State team. She is the first Warren Central player to earn the honor since the program was started in 2011.

Herrle was both an offensive and defensive stalwart in leading the Lady Vikes to a 22-12 record that was the best mark in the program’s history.

Herrle led Warren Central with 170 kills on 507 attacks, and served 95 aces. She scored a team-high 289 points, with the Lady Vikes scoring a third of the time she hit the ball over the net.

Herrle also had 27 blocks and 381 defensive digs while rotating between the setter and hitter positions.

“She is such a humble young woman who leads by creating an example of what hard work and determination can do for a team,” Warren Central coach Matthew Gullett said.

Also making the Class 6A All-State team were Hancock’s Anslee James, Cambria Necaise and Lane Wedgeworth; Lake Cormorant’s Dallas White, Arianna Woods, Sofia Gonzalez and Jania Rose; Neshoba Central’s Mya Willis and Laura Eakes; Saltillo player Caroline Hamm; and West Harrison’s Abigail Hancock.

Christina Morgan of Lake Cormorant was the Class 6A Coach of the Year. Lake Cormorant had a 31-9 record and won the Class 6A championship.
