Vicksburg’s Tyler Carter named North Defensive MVP in Mississippi All-Star Game

One of Warren County’s football all-stars brought home some hardware Saturday.

Vicksburg High defensive end Tyler Carter was named the North team’s defensive MVP in the Bernard Blackwell Mississippi All-Star Game in Gulfport.

The South beat the North 20-15 for its fourth win in a row in the game.

Carter was one of three Vicksburg High players who played for the North. He was joined by defensive tackle Demarcus Johnson and wide receiver Tyler Henderson.

Warren Central offensive lineman Beau Davis also played for the North squad.

The South rallied from a 15-0 deficit late in the first half by scoring 20 unanswered points. Jefferson Davis County’s Dee Darby returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half, Hattiesburg’s Tavares Wade had a 3-yard TD run in the third quarter, and then Brandon quarterback Landon Varnes hit Petal receiver Cayden Burger for a 26-yard touchdown with 4:50 left in the game to complete the comeback.

The North scored on a pair of touchdown passes in the first half. South Panola’s Michael Johnson tossed a 45-yarder to Houston’s Jalen Washington in the first quarter, and Olive Branch’s Raheem Vance threw a 62-yard TD pass to Union’s Keon Hutchins in the second.
