Funeral services for Irene Louise Paulding Maxey are to be held on Friday, Dec 15, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with Father Joseph Chau Nguyen officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Rosary services are to be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, in the funeral home starting at 5:30 p.m.

Irene Louise Paulding Maxey, 92, made her transition into eternity on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, while in hospice receiving prayers from family and friends.

Irene was born to Sarah Cleo Paulding and Thomas Paulding on April 13, 1931.

Following high school, Irene married her high school sweetheart John Maxey on June 21, 1949.

That union yielded 10 beautiful children: Mildred, Leonard, Margaret, Marilyn, Cynthia, Charles, Jeffery, Delephine, Gerald and Geary.

She joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Irene began working as a sales associate and later department head for Sears only after the last of her 10 children were of high school age. She retired from Sears after 20 years.

Irene was an active participant and leader in all of St. Mary’s Church’s activities. She ensured that all her children had a solid spiritual foundation.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years. John Maxey; her children, Charles Paul Maxey, Geary Martin Maxey, Mildred Maxey Washington and Delephine Maxey Gipson; and her daughters in-law Sylvia Maxey and Brenda P. Maxey.

She leaves cherished memories with Leonard Maxey, Margaret (Bobby) Brown, Marilyn Maxey Duboulay, Cynthia (Micheal) Jones, Jeffery (Patricia) Maxey, Gerald (Ernestine ) Maxey; loving nieces, Janita Russell (Larry) Stewart, Patricia Johnson; a son in-law, Thomas Gibson; an aunt, Ethel Paulding Davis who is 95 yrs old; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
