Missy Gators net second shutout in a row

Friday night’s all right for Vicksburg High’s girls soccer team.

Trinity McGloster netted a hat trick with three goals, and the Missy Gators shut out Columbus 6-0 on Friday.

Vicksburg (4-5, 1-1 MHSAA Region 2-6A) got its first region victory, and also won for the second Friday in a row. It had lost three straight games before beating Riverside 7-0 last week.

This time, the Missy Gators racked up the goals against Columbus (2-9-1, 0-4). In addition to McGloster’s hat trick, Amari Johnson scored two goals and Kennedy Mullins had one.

Keeper Lili Kistler only needed to make one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

Boys
Columbus 4, Vicksburg 3
In Friday’s boys’ game, Vicksburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half but could not hold on and lost to Columbus (4-7, 1-3 Region 2-6A).

Braylon Green, Abel Gonzalez and Jarell Noye each scored a goal for Vicksburg (2-8-2, 0-2).

The Gators will play back-to-back home games early next week, Monday vs. Canton and Tuesday against region rival Neshoba Central. Both girls-boys doubleheaders begin at 5:30 p.m.

Vicksburg’s boys’ team will also play Porter’s Chapel Academy’s co-ed squad on Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
