Wilbur McCoy enlisted in the U.S. Navy. • A.F. Garvey was injured when struck by an auto.

Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Blanks departed for Memphis to make their home. • Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Mackey returned from their honeymoon.

80 Years Ago: 1943
Billy Martin was assigned to the Navy Training School at Great Lakes Illinois. • Archie Feith was on the sick list. • Lt. J.A. Hutcheson of the Seabees was here visiting friends.

70 Years Ago: 1953
F.D. Bishop, section foreman of the Illinois Central Railroad at Beechwood retired after holding that position since 1907. • Mr. and Mrs. James Harvey announced the birth of a daughter, Sylvia.

60 Years Ago: 1963
A.J. Green died. • Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gassell Jr. of Delhi, La. announced the birth of a son, Tony. • Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Crevitt Jr. announced the birth of a son, Jeffrey. • Lillian Wahl died.

50 Years Ago: 1973
The Warren Central Vikings captured the City Recreation Girls Flag Football Championship by going through the season undefeated. • Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens spent the weekend with Mrs. Vaughn Fields. • Sam Peebles died.

40 Years Ago: 1983
Fire destroyed the Jamison home (also known as the Gamble Home) on Mundy Street. • David Allen Pugh celebrated his first birthday. • The Rev. B.E. Lewis died.

30 Years Ago: 1993
After two years of renovation, the old Downtown Motor Inn reopened as the Days Inn Downtown. • Thomas Truly died. • Rex Pierce IV celebrated his fourth birthday.

20 Years Ago: 2003
Police resumed foot patrols on Washington Street. • A train derailed along Warriors Trail near Bovina. • Peter G. Strickland, a Vietnam War veteran, died at the age of 58.

The jobless rate dipped locally and statewide. • The city looked to streamline the tech department, with the set up a Tech Committee.
