Neshoba Central shoots past Warren Central

Warren Central’s basketball teams started the new year on the wrong foot.

Gaylon Turner scored a team-high 25 points Tuesday, but the Vikings dropped a high-scoring contest to Neshoba Central 82-74 in the boys’ half of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

It was the fourth loss in five games for Warren Central (9-10, 0-2 MHSAA Region 2-6A), after it had won seven of its previous eight.

Garrett Orgas added 15 points for Warren Central. Jaylon Winter scored 10, Robert Williams had seven and Roosevelt Harris six.

In the girls’ game, perennial state power Neshoba Central rolled over Warren Central 84-18.

Nalani Thompson finished with 19 points for Neshoba (17-1, 2-0 Region 2-6A), Kyli Truss added 14, and a dozen players scored at least two points. The Rockets led 67-5 at halftime.

Warren Central (0-17, 0-2) remained winless this season. It will host Callaway Friday at 6 p.m.
