Update: Suspect in shooting surrenders to Vicksburg police

A Vicksburg woman is now in custody, surrendering to Vicksburg police officers Thursday after a days-long search. 

Officials with the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) said 43-year-old Octavia Wheatley turned herself in to authorities after being sought for days in connection with a late-December shooting.  

Wheatley was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence after allegedly shooting her husband, 44-year-old Robert Wheatley, in the arm during a domestic dispute on Jackson Street in Vicksburg.

According to VPD, officers were dispatched to River Region Medical Center Fri., Dec. 29, in response to a shooting and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm. The shooting, they said, took place at a residence in the 1400 block of Jackson Street. The victim was later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center for further treatment.

Authorities spent the days following the incident searching for Octavia Wheatley after she was quickly identified as a suspect.  

According to information released by VPD, Wheatley was arraigned by Municipal Court

Judge Angela Carpenter Thursday. Carpenter set bond at $350,000. Wheatley will be bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
