Don Render Werden, ex-Vicksburg ballplayer, died in Minneapolis. • The Y’s Men’s Club awarded Crawford McGivaren the president’s trophy for outstanding service. • Rosie Lee Peoples and Jack Roberts were married.

Jesse Boyd former Claiborne County resident, died in Houston, Texas. • Services were held for George Spivey. • Mr. and Mrs. George Batchelor announced the birth of their son, Michael.

Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson celebrated their 47th anniversary. • Services were held for N.F. Franklin. • George Moseley died.

50 Years Ago: 1974
Jesse L. Strong received a 30-year commemorative lapel pin from the Westinghouse Interior Lighting Division Plant. • Charles V. Robinson retired from the Lower Mississippi Valley Division Corps of Engineers. • Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Davis returned from an eight-day trip to Malaga, Spain.

State Sen. Mike Chaney headed the Education Committee and State Rep. George Flaggs Jr. served as chairman of the House Juvenile Justice Committee. • John W. Carsley died.

Otha Belcher Jr. was selected as the new Vicksburg Junior High principal. • Mayor Flaggs declared war on area slumlords. • Warren Central’s shooting guard, Mario Doyle was selected to the MAC basketball all-star game.
