Warren Central’s Opperman wins The Post’s Athlete of the Week award

Rachel Opperman kicked the soccer ball for Warren Central, and kicked some tail in the first Vicksburg Post Athlete of the Week contest of 2024.
Opperman, a a junior midfielder with Warren Central’s girls’ soccer team, received 1,840 of the 2,847 votes cast in this week’s online poll of The Post’s readers to win the award.
Vicksburg High soccer goal keeper Arthur Davis finished second, with 450 votes, and Porter’s Chapel Academy basketball player Gavin White was third with 400. St. Aloysius soccer player Dalton Windham received 157 votes to finish fourth.
Opperman had two goals and an assist in two victories last week. She scored one goal in a 3-2 win vs. Loyd Star on Jan. 6, and had a goal and an assist in another 3-2 victory over Neshoba Central on Jan. 9.
Opperman has five goals and four assists this season for the Lady Vikes, who are currently in first place in MHSAA Region 2-6A with an 11-4 overall record and 4-0 in the league.
