MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday involving a Hinds County Sheriff’s Deputy.

According to MBI, at approximately 8 p.m. a deputy with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department was working as a security guard at the Kroger on Interstate 55 when the deputy was notified of a disturbance in the parking lot. Upon approaching the vehicle with the subject involved, the deputy saw what appeared to be a weapon and discharged his weapon striking the subject.

The subject received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The deputy involved did not receive any serious physical injuries.

MBI said this information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office, MBI said.
