MBI investigating second officer-involved shooting in 2 days

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating its second officer-involved shooting in two days. MBI said the second shooting, which involved the Covington County Sheriff’s Department, occurred Saturday morning.

MBI officials said deputies were responding to a call for service at a residence on Jack Flowers Road in Collins when the incident occurred.

Upon arrival at the residence, the subject began firing a weapon at the responding deputies, leading to an exchange of gunfire striking the subject, officials said. The subject was transported to a local hospital. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident.

MBI said this information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the attorney general’s office.

The incident comes on the heels of an officer-involved shooting at approximately 8 p.m. Friday involving a deputy with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department at the Kroger location on Interstate 55 in Jackson.
