A fire that broke out in a vacant home this morning on Egan Avenue was quickly extinguished, but is still under investigation.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said the fire started just after 5 a.m. Friday at the unoccupied home located at 612 Egan Avenue.

“(There are) no utilities at the address,” Stamps said. “(The) fire appears to have started in the dining area of the kitchen. Flames penetrated the ceiling causing damage to the roof and making it visible to neighbors or someone passing by.”
